Within this formula, Dan Shen quickens the blood, dispels stasis, and stops pain.
Tan Xiang warms the middle and rectifies the qi, while Sha Ren moves the qi, loosens the chest, and stops pain.

Chinese Symptomology: Signs & symptoms of qi stagnation include: Irritability, chest oppression, ductal and abdominal pain which may radiate upward, a bowstring pulse. Signs & symptoms of blood stasis include: Severe pain, lancinating pain, pain in a fixed location, a dark, purplish tongue, possible static speckles and macules on the tongue, possible distended and tortuous sublingual veins, a possibly bound, regularly intermittent, or choppy pulse.
Western Symptomology: Qi & blood stasis & stagnation resulting in angina pectoris, hepatitis, pancreatitis, cholecystitis, chronic gastritis, peptic ulcer, and primary and secondary amenorrhea.
